Amazing Spider-Girl Finds a New Home

You may have heard that Tom DeFalco’s Amazing Spider-Girl is ending with Amazing Spider-Girl #30, due out March 18, 2009. This is sad news to everyone who enjoyed this title, set in an alternate future where Peter and Mary Jane’s daughter, May “Mayday” Parker, follows in her father’s footsteps as a costumed superhero!

However, Mayday isn’t leaving comics! Instead, she’ll be given her own 16-page feature in the bi-monthly comic Amazing Spider-Man Family, starting with Amazing Spider-Man Family #5! So what is Amazing Spider-Man Family?

Here’s what you need to know about Amazing Spider-Man Family:

  • It’s super sized–more than 100 pages!
  • You’ll find stories from all of Spider-Man’s timelines. In any given issue, you’ll find stories from Brand-New Day, early stories from Peter’s youth, strips like The Amazing Spider Ma’am (starring Aunt May, natch), or even the Spectacular Spider-Ham!
  • Reprints from Spider-Man’s earlier days are included! Classic stories from the ’70s, ’90s, and more are featured, with characters like Doctor Octopus, Gwen Stacy, and Hobgoblin.

Why you should care:

  • If you’re a Spider-Man fan but don’t buy a lot of titles, you can get an overview of Webhead’s greatest hits.
  • Everything’s included: humor, drama, and pathos, as well as oddities you won’t find everywhere else. It’s a great jumping-off point for new fans, and a nostalgia trip for older ones.
  • It’s the only place you’ll find the new adventures of Spider-Girl!

What you should do next:

So what do you think? Are you sad to see Spider-Girl lose her monthly title? Are you as curious as I am to see what’s going to be in Amazing Spider-Man Family next? Post your comments below!

Today’s 28 Days of Comics–Brought to You by the Letter “Z”

Zowie! Don’t tell me that we’re almost at the end of our zippy 28 Days of Comics sale! We’re on day “Z,” which means one thing–Zombie Tales! Okay, it also means titles like Zen Intergalactic Ninja, Zombies vs. Robots vs. Amazons, and Zero G, are 28% off!

One “Z” title that caught my eye this week is Zero Killer. Written by Arvid Nelson, the creator of Rex Mundi, with art by Matt Camp, this series takes place in the future, after a nuclear war leaves most of the world underwater–and the survivors are willing to do whatever it takes to stay alive!

Zero Killer’s a bounty hunter with a mysterious mission. What it is, we never quite know, because . . . issue #4 was never printed! However, this is still a wonderfully written and drawn series, and you can preview each issue before you buy.

Listen, readers–just because we’ve reached day “Z,” it doesn’t mean our 28 Days of Comics sale is over! Be sure to come back tomorrow for a very special grand finale to this awesome sale. In the meantime, what “Z” title is your favorite? And how many zombie titles do we have, anyway? Post below!

Iron Man 2 Interweb Casting Rumors–Nick Fury

I am totally geeking out right now! Ever since we let you know that Sam Jackson might be out of Iron Man 2, I’ve been waiting with bated breath. According to the folks at Variety.com, Jackson is on board not only for Iron Man 2, but has options for up to eight other Marvel movies!

I went to see Iron Man three times in the theatre, and when Jackson’s Fury showed up on the screen, fans cheered…loudly. When fans cheered during subsequent showings, I knew Marvel would be nuts to tease us and not follow through.

With other titles like Thor, Captain America and The S.H.I.E.L.D. thrown out there, I think Jackson’s addition will provide much needed consistency in the Marvel movie universe.

I know I’m not the only one who thinks that this is a great casting development for the franchise(s). What are your thoughts? Good decision? Didn’t like Jackson’s Fury? Let us know below.

Today’s 28 Days of Comics–Brought to You by the Letter “Y”

YES! Today’s 28 Days of Comics just updated, and that means you’ll save 28% off all today’s “Y” titles.

You would think that there aren’t many titles that start with “Y,” and you’d be right, but that makes it much easier to find a great title, because the chaff has already been removed. If you’re like me (and hundreds of thousands of others), you’ll dig Y: The Last Man.

Set in the near future, Y: The Last Man follows a young man after a catastrophic event where nearly half of the Earth’s population dies in an instant, leaving young Yorick Brown and his pet monkey the last man/male monkey on the planet.

Is Yorick the last hope for our species, or is he the final warmonger/rapist that needs to be wiped off the face of the Earth? This amazing story leads us around the globe and never seems to hit a lull. Brian K. Vaughan is at the top of his game, and just a few pages in, you can tell that the film adaptation of this story will be a blockbuster.

Pia Guerra’s exceptional art consistently amazed me throughout the series. She’s the only person on Earth to show us how beautiful (and wicked) this place would be after half the world dies. Get in on this wonderful series, and you won’t be disappointed.

If you’re looking for a fun book that’s good for all ages, you might want to check out Yam. Yam and his friends live on a remote tropical island and are always getting mixed up in adventures.

Whether it’s encountering cupcakes that spring to life, befriending potted flowers, or exploring the mysterious ruins on the island, this small boy in his hooded, footy pajamas always ends up having a blast with his friends.

This story is literally too cute for words.

I’m telling you, there are some really great titles in today’s 28 Days of Comics. Get on over there and find out for yourself.

We’ll see you back here tomorrow for the “Z” titles, and you MUST get here on Saturday when we end our 28 Days of Comics. Seriously.

Are you planning to pick up some “Young” titles (Young Avengers, Young Liars, Young X-Men) today? Which of the 28 Days of Comics has been your favorite so far? Let us know below.

Web-Slinger Swings Onto Broadway Next Year

It’s been in the works for years, and we’ve learned that opening night for Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark is scheduled for February 18, 2010.

Evan Rachel Wood (The Wrestler, The Upside of Anger) is reportedly on board as Mary Jane and they’re trying to get Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe, 21) for the role of Peter Parker. More on casting as other developments unfold.

Featuring music and lyrics by U2’s Bono and The Edge, I’m sure Turn off the Dark will be pretty unique (read: rockin’) experience. It all comes together under the capable direction of Julie Taymor who’s also one of the show’s co-writers.

I’m pretty excited to see what they’ll do with Spider-Man on stage. I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it out to NYC to see the showing, but if I were there already, I know I’d drop a few bills to check it out.

They’re accepting advance group orders now. If you’ve got 11 friends who are as into Spider-Man as you, check out the musical’s official site.

What’s your take on the Spider-Man Broadway musical? Have you been following the story for some time? Got something else to add? Live in NYC and planning on checking it out? Let us know below.

Today’s 28 Days of Comics-Brought to You By the Letter “X”

“X” marks the spot today at our 28 Days of Comics sale! Today is an awesome opportunity to score a ton of great titles. “”Like what?” you may ask.

How about X-Force: Angels & Demons for starters? This fan favorite takes surly, bloodthirsty mutant Wolverine, gives him a team of equally surly and bloodthirsty homeys, and sends them out to be surly and bloodthirsty.

“Yeah Andrew, but what’s the plot?” Search me, I’ve got no idea. I’m sure it has one, but for me this is a title about stabbing people with claws, knives, and werewolf hands (which are also technically claws I suppose), and everything else is secondary.

Seriously, check out the cover (this is the X-Force: Angels & Demons Hardcover (Bloody Variant) for those who are interested). Do these guys look like they’re here to discuss plot progression and foreshadowing? No. They are here to tear some villains up, figuratively and literally, and have no patience for you and your questions about plot. Personally, I would not push them on the matter, as I have it on good authority this picture was taken immediately following their last appearance at a book club meeting.

Of course you can’t have X-Force without the X-Men. Luckily, we have plenty of both. Now’s a good time to catch up on your favorite story arcs as our X-Men trades are marked 28% off. Whether you’re looking for the older stuff or more recent offerings like X-Men: Messiah Complex, we’ve got you covered.

NEWS FLASH: So a lot of people have realized that our 28 Days of Comics event only has 27 days spoken for. So what’s up with Day 28? We’re telling you for the first time today! On February 28th, we will be taking every comic, graphic novel, and book from 2008 and earlier, and marking them at 28% off for 24 hours only. So whether you missed a title you meant to get over the previous 27 days, wished you’d ordered more when you had the chance, or just like picking up everything at once, Saturday, February 28th is your chance to score a great deal on all of our comics, graphic novels, and books from 2008 and before. We’ll see you then!

So, given that the cat is now out of the bag, tell us–what are you going to pick up? We’d love to know.
