Blender, the open source 3d app is getting more powerful with every iteration, as demonstrated by the open movie projects the blender foundation makes in order to test drive and hone the software. This latest one is a live action short film chock full of SFX composited in by blender. The movie assets are also open source and downloadable from the official Tears of Steel website
