Mark Ruffalo and others present the Robin Hood tax.
The financial economy is many times larger than the “real” economy which is the one we actually live and die in, the system is obviously broken and stuff like this might be a step in the right direction.
It’s a nice idea in theory, but in practice there is always the problem of financial institutes moving the brunt of their transactions to a nation that has no such tax. And a lot of the taxes will probably be paid by the people who use bank transactions. Such as people who use credit cards and who receive salaries and wages through their bank accounts. If you want to fleece the banks and not ‘the people’, you have to get up pretty early in the morning.
As for using some of the money to support urban farming? I thought the point of that was to farm areas that aren’t used for anything else, not pay big money for expensive urban land. There’s a good reason why most farming is done in rural areas. If the farming doesn’t yield enough profit to buy urban land, why should anyone buy urban land for farming? Gives me the impression that someone wants to be a farmer, while still enjoying the benefits of living in a city, and someone else should pay for the extra cost.
And hey, I seem to have figured out why this site got so quiet. I’ve been coming in through the imageboard, just to notice if anyone posts anything there. And that link leads to a version of this site without the “www”, and the last update on that version was the gyroscope video. I didn’t even bother clicking on the “Home” navigation option until I noticed today that my post from yesterday wasn’t showing. Now I have a lot to catch up on.
I am posting less. But that seems like some cache fuckery I will try refreshing
