Armageddon?? (chapters 1-85 + Epilogue)

Stardestroyer.net is a sci fi forum where such weighty topics as “Star destroyer versus enterprise, who would win” are routinely discussed and analyzed (I’m not knocking it, it can be fun)

Anyway, it seems at some point someone asked the question “what if The Lord announced that humanity has been abandoned to the dominion of Hell” and Hell came to collect. And so The salvation war, a collaborative fic describing the ensuing conflict was born.

And… it’s pretty awesome.

Some highlights:

A major land battle between the legions of hell and a combined US. British and Iranian tank army in the Iraq desert

A succubus attempts to seduce Bill Clinton to gain intelligence. He blows it away with a shotgun

The pope excommunicates God

Demons use volcanoes to destroy Sheffield and Detroit. The plan is to destroy human military industry, but they get their intel from condemned souls who aren’t quite up to date on where modern industrial centers are,

A murdered Richard Dawkins is rescued from the pit by US marines sent by James Randi, who has been recruited by the Pentagon to find real psychics (It turns out all the real ones are in psychiatric institutions)

And pages and pages of hellspawn being turned into mincemeat by lovingly described military hardware.

And of course, the invasion of Hell and the aerial bombardment of Dis and Satan’s palace.

I’m currently starting to read the continuation. Pamtheocide, in which the forces of Heaven begin to attack.

Garth Ennis would love this shit.

Well, that ruined the suspension of disbelief right there. The man has to be seduced now?

Oh well, it’s not as if I have the time to read the whole story anyway. I’m reading fantasy books by Joe Abercrombie. They’re quite excellent.
